December 23, 2003A BreakThe holidays are here. I'm in Denver with Amanda spending Christmas and New Years with our families. It's great to be out of LA for a while. We drove back and the car held up. The little Honda made it a lot more quickly than the Budget moving van. I love the open space and the immensity that is found on the trip. Although, I'm not quite as excited to drive back... So far, I haven't done with the Chicken Scratch what I hoped to. It's not much a record of my grad school experiences. I don't really have an excuse other than a lack of desire to write about it... The first quarter is now over and I'm glad on it. I finished my short, short film Reset. I'll be posting it here and on Mandarin sometime soon. I'm mostly happy with the film. It was a great exercise: at once challenging and liberating to hand over many of the creative elements to others. Perhaps, I'm least happy with the idea itself. I just sort of feel ho-hum about it. Pretty arbitrary if you ask me. It's fun and surprising though, so ultimately, I'm cool with it. I look forward to making films that challenge me more: technically and artistically. My next project "Fishes in the Sea" definitely has a lot more at stake for me. Easier to fail with. Not that I want to fail, but I just want to explore things that are easier to mess up... Sorta sadistic... hehe. Anyway... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all and to all a good Scratch...
